The listing was originally posted in 2009, with the price dropping significantly since then. [Oak Bay News] | π Harry Leong, who opened Harryβs Flowers in Oak Bay 60 years ago, died Sept. 7 at age 94 with his family by his side. According to his obituary, it was the oldest flower shop in Victoria. Agate was remembered by many for his generosity, upbeat attitude, as well as his flare for fashion. | | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook group | New stop sign on Musgrave at Estevan | An Oak Bay local commented to the group and tagged the District of Oak Bay to say that the new stop signs on Musgrave at Estevan are adding to confusion, as no one has a clear sense of their right of way. The spot connects five offset roads, and brings vehicles, bike, and pedestrian traffic to an βall way stopβ. | The commenter suggested that the District of Oak Bay should remove the new stop signs on Musgrave, drop the speed limits on all incoming roads to 30 km/h, and have Oak Bay Police do some enforcement in order to protect people riding bikes and other vulnerable road users before an accident happens. Other commenters suggested that Oak Bay needs to prioritize better design for roundabout intersections, including the one pictured in the post, as well as roundabout solutions for a couple of other intersections, including Eastdowne and Haultain. | |

| | | Thoughts on the public/private school system in Oak Bay | A new resident to Oak Bay reached out to the group in order to learn more about peopleβs experiences with the public and private school systems in the area, hoping to assess which route was best for their family. While some quickly pointed out that being in this position is already an incredible place of privilege, some teachers, parents, and other members of the community piped in with their pros and cons. St. Christopher's and Montessori School-Oak Bay were praised for their preschool and kindergarten, as well as others. | In addition, some locals praised the French tracks at all of the local public schools for being βamazingβ and for having excellent teachers at all local schools. Some commenters had heard that the program was difficult to get into and in very high demand, but others said that as long as they were in the catchment area, they didnβt have an issue getting in (although this was several years ago). Others said itβs currently a lottery system, which leaves many families out, unless they get lucky. The overwhelming consensus among commenters was that, while some are harder to get into than others, there are no bad schools in Oak Bay. | |
