| | IN OTHER NEWS | | Sculpture honours Takaya of Discovery Island | Several locals have shared photos this week of a new sculpture at Cattle Point that honours the legacy of Takaya, a lone wolf who was living on Discovery Island. Takaya appeared on Discovery Island at the same time the Songhees Nation’s longtime Chief Robert Sam died, and many interpreted the wolf’s arrival as a sign. Many locals had reported seeing Takaya over the course of seven years before he was ultimately shot and killed by hunters on Vancouver Island in 2020. His death sparked a debate over BC hunting laws. An anonymous donor commissioned the carving by well-known stone sculptor Kent Laforme. Have you seen it yet? | |
