| | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook group. | Oak Bay locals assist in locating missing man | An Oak Bay local reached out to the group this week to aid in the search for her missing father, who was ultimately found safe. The man has Alzheimerβs Disease and wasnβt aware he was in Canada, which sparked a search in the community based on his daughterβs description of him, what he was wearing, and his approximate whereabouts. Many in the community (as well as local police) joined the search, while others repeatedly bumped the post on the Oak Bay Local Facebook group in order to ensure it was seen by as many as possible. The original poster wanted to thank everyone who was able to help find her dad. | |

| | | Controversial intersection is now an all-way stop | Oak Bay locals have been commenting on a new all-way stop at the intersection at Estevan/Musgrave/Thompson, which has been causing some confusion this week. One word reiterated by many in the Facebook group is βfinallyβ, however others have indicated that it will take some getting used to. Its arrival has also sparked a conversation about what intersection could be next, with many hoping Goodwin/Beach/Windsor will be addressed. Most locals have celebrated this new all-way stop, saying it is a step in the right direction to quiet traffic in the area. | |

| | IN OTHER NEWS | | Sculpture honours Takaya of Discovery Island | Several locals have shared photos this week of a new sculpture at Cattle Point that honours the legacy of Takaya, a lone wolf who was living on Discovery Island. Takaya appeared on Discovery Island at the same time the Songhees Nationβs longtime Chief Robert Sam died, and many interpreted the wolfβs arrival as a sign. Many locals had reported seeing Takaya over the course of seven years before he was ultimately shot and killed by hunters on Vancouver Island in 2020. His death sparked a debate over BC hunting laws. An anonymous donor commissioned the carving by well-known stone sculptor Kent Laforme. Have you seen it yet? | |
