| | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook group | Increased tension between drivers and cyclists | Oak Bay locals discussed ongoing tensions between road users, both those who were riding bikes, and those driving cars. There appears to be an uptick in discussions around car drivers accelerating near bicycle riders lately in the wake of an organized ride in protest of a βpart-timeβ bike lane on Henderson, which is a dedicated bike lane from 7am to 7pm. Some drivers have also said theyβve felt frustrated by some cyclists riding unpredictably. Have you noticed an increase in tensions? | |

| | More mysterious bugs | Oak Bay locals have long been turning to the community for help at identifying mystery insects, bugs, and other wildlife. This week a new beast was discovered, with what looked to be a kind of powder surrounding a small hole in some wood trim. Some community members suggested it could be the work of carpenter ants, while others through it might be termites. Whatever they are, the community reached a consensus that professionals should definitely be consulted, as a number of the possible pests could cause structural problems in homes. Some community members suggested Orkin Canada or Garden City Pest Control were reliable pest control providers, and suggested they be contacted immediately. | A community member warned the public against using rat poison after posting some incredible photos showing an owl providing a more natural pest control method. The images show that the owl had taken a bothersome rodent from a Saanich-area yard and flown it to its nest where its babies then feasted on it. Oak Bay joined Saanich in banning the commercial use of rat poison in October 2020 after several owls were found dead, but some believe the poison to still be in use. |
