🌿 Oak Bay is currently holding Make a Difference Week until June 11 where residents are removing invasive plants, promoting the growth of native plants, and celebrating the volunteers who are maintaining the local parks ecosystem.

📚 The Oak Bay Public Library reopened this week, after having been closed since January due to an asbestos contamination. In addition to a thorough abatement process, the library also underwent several efficiency upgrades during the closure.

🚨 Oak Bay police were forced to swerve out of the way after a driver accelerated through a roadblock, narrowly avoiding being hit.

Lending library for little Oak Bay visitors

An Oak Bay local reached out to the group for guidance on where to find supplies for young families with children visiting the community this summer. While several shops came up, including Once Upon a Child, Marketplace and some little libraries, others reached out to the original commenter to offer the use of their own items. These items will set the family up with quite a few key pieces for their stay this summer.

Anyone who has ever traveled with young children will know that the gear necessary to be comfortable while staying away from home—high chairs, strollers, car seats, toys—can often make all the difference in having a good travel experience with young ones. The original commenter is still in search of several items, including a hiking backpack. Do you have any items to share?

Oak Bay local in search of old tapes

An Oak Bay local was in search of sealed blank cassette tapes to record music from vinyl records. The original comment was made back in March and the local provided an update this week that they were able to find several tapes from some supportive locals who dug through their basements and left the tapes on their front stoops, or dropped them off in person.

One user pointed out that the same items were readily shippable on Amazon, however the original commenter remarked that they prefer to keep this project as local as possible, and were successful at it. After a few months the project was complete, and they thanked the community for being so helpful. The local also plans to pay the favour forward in the future in other ways.
