Some thought that a nearby eagleβs nest could affect the scale of the event, so as not to disturb the nest near Willows Beach. | The annual celebration is in its 61st year and is set to proceed as planned, though there wonβt be fireworks this year due to fire risk. Some chimed in that they were relieved to not have to deal with the stressed out pets, concerns about wildlife and the environment that comes with fireworks every year, and suggested they should be permanently pulled from events like this. | | Moulting seal still getting lots of attention | Oak Bay locals, officials and media outlets have been talking about one particular moulting seal at Willows Beach. Some were concerned it had died, however the Government of Canada says that the stressful βcatastrophic moultβ phase could keep the seal there for over a month and reminded the publicβonce againβto stay clear and give it lots of space. | Some locals reported seeing spectators get dangerously close to the animal which could cause additional stress on it, not to mention a potentially hefty fine. | |
