| | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook Group | Kid-friendly cycling routes | An Oak Bay local reached out to the group for advice on where to go when cycling on Eastdowne from Willows Elementary with young kids, specifically when turning left onto Haultain. They were wondering if they should tell their kids to disembark their bikes and walk across tricky streets to navigate while cycling, such as Foul Bay, Haultain and Eastdown. | They were also wondering what requirements there are for car drivers to signal to people on bikes. Some cyclists said they had nearly been struck while transitioning from a cyclist to a pedestrian on Foul Bay at Haultain and other tricky areas, and suggested it was safer to cycle across. Several commenters called for a bike corridor for those cycling to schools in the community, particularly for those who are riding along the notoriously dangerous Shelbourne or Richmond areas. Other commenters said they have emailed the engineering department in order to support safer cycling near schools and encouraged others to do the same. | |
