| | | Traffic calming plans for McNeill | Ongoing attempts at traffic calming have spurred deepβand often dividedβdiscussion in Oak Bay, and one commenter wanted to discuss upcoming plans to drop the speed limit on collector road McNeill Avenue. There have been many calls to calm this road over the years, and at July 24 and Oct. 10 meetings, Oak Bay Council voiced on the intent of making the 4,500-vehicles-a-day collector road a local road, and divert its traffic to neighbourhood streets. | The upcoming move was likened to the recent changes on Richardson Avenue, which many say has led to excessive traffic on neighbouring roads, despite the improvements for safer cycling. Others noted that the changes on McNeill will be nothing like what was done on Richardson, and many applauded the ongoing efforts to lower speeding in the community.
