Police are asking anyone with dash cams to check their footage if they were travelling on Beach Drive between Cadboro Bay Village and Gonzales Bay, or the surrounding streets, between 10pm on Tuesday, July 25 until 7am on Wednesday, July 26. No one was harmed in the incident, however the original post advised the community to be on the lookout. | π³ New regulations to curb cruise ship emissions are causing fears among some business owners that benefit from tourist spending. The new regulation requires that ships slow down in an effort to protect endangered southern resident killer whales. It also means ships could spend less time in port. [Times Colonist] | π² A UVic dig found signs of former WΜ±SΓNEΔ village near Cordova Bay. The five-week-long dig at Agate Lane Park, led by UVic professors and students, has uncovered signs of ΘΎELΒΈIΘ½ΔE, a thousand-year-old village of the WΜ±SΓNEΔ and Lekwungen-speaking peoples. The dig has led to the discovery of fire pits, slate fishing knives, fish hooks, and food remains. Several locals replied that Wild ARC (BC SPCAβs Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre) can help. The organization is the only wildlife rehabilitation centre on southern Vancouver Island, and is open 365 days a year. It treated 2,459 animals last year from all over the region, helping them recover and return to the wild. Oak Bay locals suggested the original poster give a call to the organization at 1-855-622-7722 to learn more about what it does, and to get advice on the situation. | |

| | | Parked cars blocking Oak Bay driveways during special events | An Oak Bay local reached out to the group in search of advice on what to do about a car parked in front of their driveway, blocking entry of their vehicle, during a special event last weekend. The original commenter noticed that this was a pattern of behaviour theyβve been inconvenienced by before. Some suggested calling Oak Bay Police and reporting the incident, however they opted to leave a sign on the windshield of the car saying the car owner should βrethink their parking choicesβ. The sign had been tossed onto the ground. Others suggested placing traffic cones at the end of the driveway for future events, or to call on the municipality for further advice.
