| | PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT | To join the conversation, become a member of the Oak Bay Local Facebook Group | Volunteer opportunities for youth | The Garry Oak Scouts were looking for help from the community on suggestions for volunteer opportunities for youth who are 12 and under during the holiday season. Oak Bay Volunteer Services is currently recruiting volunteers for their Snow Angels program to help clear snow and ice from walkways and driveways for older adults and people with disabilities to keep them safe in the event of a snowfall. Other volunteer opportunities in the community were looking for help from those who are older than 13, however other suggestions from the community are welcome. | |

| | | Insurance renewal increases | An Oak Bay local reached out to the group after receiving an insurance renewal notice reminding them of an upcoming increase of over $3k. This comes after last yearβs increase of over $4K, which adds up to just over $10k annually. After inquiring with the group, there were over 180 comments, which included several others in similar situations. | Some recommended specific companies and the thread also included advice from brokers. Many also discussed the topic of earthquake insurance, which is a key concern (and significant expense) for many in the community, which is poised to continue rising in the future.
