| IN THE NEWS | 🏘 Oak Bay mayor says zoning is in place to add housing units
In a Jan. 15 letter to Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon, Mayor Kevin Murdoch said the district was disappointed with the minister’s comments suggesting Oak Bay wasn’t doing its part to meet housing targets. The minister’s December report showed how many units had been built by municipalities that had been given housing targets in late 2023. Oak Bay was given a target of 56 units, and over the year 16 units were constructed, or about 29% of its target. The little library had already been rebuilt once, and while the most recent damage isn’t extensive, others have been concerned about seeing this type of damage in the community. One commenter noted that one was recently set on fire on Halloween, and wasn’t rebuilt after the incident.
