Three student-run fundraisers give your September cleanout somewhere to go. Oak Bay High students have a $30,000 goal for Cops for Cancer this year, and three ways for neighbours to help. Victoria Buzz reports that the Grade 12 organizers are planning a car wash, garage sale and bottle drive. Start with the car wash on Saturday, September 12, from 9am–3pm, by donation. If your cupboards need attention too, the students will accept garage-sale donations on Friday, September 18. Toys, clothes, books, sporting goods and kitchen items are among the goods listed for the sale in the school’s small gym on September 19, 9am–3pm. Save your bottles for September 26: the bottle drive runs 9am–3pm in the school’s back parking lot. The campaign supports childhood cancer research and programs such as Camp Goodtimes. Mary McArthur photographed the evening light behind the sailboat masts at Oak Bay Marina. |
Andrew Gibbs started “The Tree that Listened to the Sea” at the beach and finished it in his studio. The arbutus is the subject; the thick strokes of oil paint give the water its movement. |
A basket of apples and a handwritten sign at Dean and Kings, near Jubilee. Carla Thorneloe-Wormald spotted this little fruit stand. |
